Satirical President Ronald Reagan and Mrs. Nancy Reagan Memorabilia
A collection of satrical memorabilia featuring the Reagans. The collection includes three satirical pinbacks; a ‘Queen Nancy’ satirical postcard; and a satirical ‘First Family’ paper doll and cut-out book.
Coming into the White House during an economic recession, Nancy Reagan’s designer gowns and attendance at the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana soon led to her being caricatured as “Queen Nancy,” which began with a famous postcard showing her in crown and ermine. A former actress, she was compared to her husband’s first wife, Jane Wyman (also an actress who won an Academy award), who divorced him. By the time of her husband’s re-election campaign, even her anti-drug abuse slogan of “Just Say No” was even used ironically by the opposition.
