Michael Finster Offset Lithograph on Paper "The Collection"
An offset lithograph titled The Collection by outsider folk artist Michael Finster (American, b. 1969). To the center is a naive portrayal of Michael with a text to the lower right proclaiming his birthday. The figure is surrounded by mythical creatures and preachy text. Signed in graphite to the lower right, titled to the lower center, and numbered edition 74 of 700. The work remains unmounted and unframed.
Grandson of the legendary folk artist, Howard Finster, Michael was born in Georgia in 1969 and dropped out of high school to help paint with his grandfather. Michael would help paint and cut plywood for Howard. His work features similar imagery of religious and natural subject matters, but also often includes fantastical depictions of aliens, dinosaurs and mythical creatures. Like Howard, he numbers his works and has completed over 4,000 pieces.
