Lau Chun Oil Painting on Canvas Hawaiian Landscape

Item Details

An oil painting on canvas Hawaiian landscape scene by listed Chinese-American artist Lau Chun (b. 1942). Volcanic formations appear like a wall in the background, towering over a canopy of dense forest and contiguous cove with an outstretched white gazebo. Chun captures the essence of light and emotion drawing inspiration from the impressionists with elements of his own unique style present in the slightly abstracted colors and forms. Signed and dated to the lower right in paint. Presented without glass and housed in a silver tone beveled wood frame with a linen wrapped frame liner.

Lau Chun born in Kiangsi, China in 1942. He studied at the Canton School of Fine Art for two years and then left for Hong Kong. While in hong Kong, Lau met Mexican painter Franics Bodo, who hired Lau to help him with the painting of murals and mosaics. In 1968, he was given the opportunity to travel and study throughout Europe on a scholarship granted to him from the Revox Corporation of Switzerland. He was able to exhibit work in Hamburg and Copenhagen during this time period. Lau would eventually settle in Honolulu, HI where he remains today painting landscapes inspired greatly by the impressionists.
