Sid Burns 1972 Bronze Sculpture "We Beseech Thee"
A 1972 bronze sculpture titled We Beseech Thee by Sid Burns (1916 – 1979). Burns, who was born in Oklahoma and resided in Arizona for much of his life, was a self-taught artist who began sculpting at the age of 50. Best known for his Western-related subjects, this work is indicative of Burn’s expressive style and meticulous attention towards detail. The sculpture depicts an American Indian holding a buffalo skull up to the sky while another skull lays at his feet below. The piece is numbered 12 of 24, dated, 1972, titled We Beseech Thee and signed by Sid Burns to its base. The work is presented on a wooden base.
