Ricardo Morin Abstract Mixed Media Painting on Paper from "Silence Series"

Item Details

An unframed abstract mixed media painting on paper by Venezuelan-born artist Ricardo Morin (b. 1954). Comprised of watercolor, graphite, gesso, and acrylic on paper, this abstract geometric work is likely from the artist’s Silence series that features similar paintings created in 2010. A grid of triangles outlined in black paint is juxtaposed against a cloudy background filled with gray, blue, purple watercolors bleeding into one another. The central area of the composition is accented with a darker splatter of color, including blue, green, and a small neon yellow triangle cornered within the center triangle. The painting remains unframed and no signature was found on the work. For other works in the series, see items 16NYC037-236, 16NYC037-238, 16NYC037-239, and 16NYC037-240.

Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, he received his B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that often exhibit a combination of linear delineation and spontaneous fluidity.
