Artist’s proof
Contemporary American artist Deborah Bigeleisen began her career painting Dutch master style white roses until her introduction to fractals transformed her artistic direction. Fractals provide a vision beyond the naked eye, and inform a dialogue between aesthetics and nature in a digital and technology-driven world. In Bigeleisen’s Kaleidoscope series, the flowers keep us rooted in nature and classical beauty while the abstract textures and geometric planes symbolize the erosion of norms by technology and world events. The Dreamscape series examines the relationship between natural phenomena and human activity. Bigeleisen uses the Dutch master technique of applying upwards to 20 layered transparencies to create richly saturated darks and vibrant highlights. Depicting both representational and non-objective compositions, movement, organization of space, tonal transitions and intricacy of brushwork will always be present.
