Julia Huxley Signed "Underwoods" by Robert Louis Stevenson, 1903

Julia Huxley (1862–1908) was a British scholar. As a child, she and her sister Ethel met author Lewis Carroll and were featured in a number of his photographs. In 1877, Carroll created the word ladder game Doublets for the children, which was later published by Vanity Fair in 1879. Huxley founded Prior’s Field School for girls in Godalming, Surrey, in 1902. This Easter gift copy of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Underwoods was presented to Jessie Travers from Huxley and is dated 1905.
