Recognized as the leader of Fauvism, Henri Matisse rivaled Pablo Picasso in his groundbreaking style and his revolutionary artwork at the turn of the century. He studied at the Académie Julian and was a student of William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Gustave Moreau. His work has been regularly exhibited and collected by countless institutions in the United States, Russia, and various European countries.
