Presented in gilt gesso frames the couple are elegantly shown dressed in their finery. The woman, gazing out contentedly, wears cross earrings with a delicately rendered brooch fastened to the collar of her dress. Acting almost as a locket, the brooch contains a photograph of her husband taken when he was 40 in 1864. The two portraits are accompanied by the brooch worn by Justina Marie Weber in the portrait.
