One of the youngest students at the Royal College of Art, Noel Harry Leaver began his artistic studies at the early age of sixteen. Despite being known for his distinctive North African views and orientalist scenes, Leaver’s oeuvre includes European landscapes, townscapes, interiors and still lifes. His earlier paintings were constructed of softer and looser strokes that gradually became fine detail as his style progressed. Leaver’s pieces from the period of 1920-1929 were usually signed in mixed lower and upper case “Noel H. LEAVER ARCA,” while later life he signed in all upper case “NOEL H. LEAVER.”
